Scientology Churches in Italy Protecting Italian Children

Italian Scientologists man drug-information booths most weekends, where they let youth know the mental and physical affects of drugs and help them "Say NO to Drugs."

As Italy is a transit point on the trafficking of heroin from southwest Asia through the Balkans to Western Europe, Italian Scientologists have created a Say NO to Drugs group to safeguard the children of the country.

Humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard once wrote, "People mistakenly believe they 'feel better' or 'act better' or are 'only happy' when on drugs. This is just another delusion. Sooner or later the drugs will destroy them physically. Discourage people from taking drugs."

Italian Scientologists, determined to help the children of their country avoid this trap, can be found manning drug information booths most weekend. They distribute pamphlets and flyers to young people to giving factual information about drugs. Knowing the truth about the mental and physical affects of these substances they are far less likely to succumb to pro-drug propaganda and peer pressure.

Others volunteer their time to keep parks free of syringes left there by addicts — syringes that could otherwise spread life-threatening diseases to the children who play there.

These dedicated volunteers are part of an international movement of Scientologists who have distributed over 8 million booklets and almost 49 million drug education flyers in 53 countries.

The Italian Say NO to Drugs teams are well known for their "syringe pick-up" activities.

These Scientologists have taken on the job of keeping so-called "needle parks" free from syringes, which could otherwise spread life-threatening diseases to children who play there.
