Human Rights Summit Empowers Youth - Scientology News in Europe

Last month young people from around the world gathered at Tintagel in Cornwall in the United Kingdom to participate in the International Youth for Human Rights Youth Summit and Arts Festival.

The purpose of the event was to encourage young people to use the arts to promote human rights. Attendees came from as far away as Switzerland, America and Africa.

“Education is the key to making human rights a reality,” said Faisal Saaed, a representative of the Church of Scientology International European Office for Public Affairs and Human Rights.

“The young people want to know about human rights and we adults have to give them the answers,” said guest speaker Mejindarpal Kaur, the director of United Sikhs. She went on to say, “Just to raise questions in their mind will not help them, we need to let them know how, at a school level, they can make a difference through letter writing to governments of people who are abusing other people’s rights.”

As reported in the BBC News, the youth attending this summit did learn that there is something they can do to bring about human rights. 13-year-old delegate Jagdeep Kaur realized, “Being a child doesn’t make a difference, we can bring about change.”

The Youth Summit was jointly sponsored by Youth for Human Rights International, the Church of Scientology International European Office for Public Affairs and Human Rights, United Sikhs, World Assembly of Muslim Youth and the Association of British Muslims.
