Coordinating an Effective Program to Curtail Heroin Use in Europe - Scientology Effective Solutions

As reported today in the Guardian Unlimited, as much as 90% of the heroin from Afghanistan ends up in Europe.

Of all European countries, Britain has the greatest problem, with the largest number of seizures and one of the highest levels of abuse, according to a United Nations report published in March 2005.

In its annual report, the United Nations International Narcotics Control Board said that the UK had the largest heroin seizure rate in Europe. It also raised concerns that the recent EU enlargement could make life easier for drug traffickers.

While the control of the flow of these drugs is an urgent concern, effective drug-prevention and drug-rehabilitation is essential.

This is why the Church of Scientology International European Human Rights Office formed the Foundation for a Drug-Free Europe last year. As part of this program the office is hosting the next in its series of anti-drug conference in Brussels on October 12, 2005.

The purpose of the Foundation for a Drug-Free Europe is to unite and coordinate the efforts of members of civil society involved in the fight against drugs in Europe.

“There is no more important issue facing our culture today,” said M. Marc Bromberg, Human Rights Office staff. “This is not just an issue of abuse by youth or one segment of society. Drug abuse and drug dependency reaches into every sector of our culture and is a major factor in crime, illness, lack of productivity and lessening of moral standards.”

Participants in our last conference in June included Mr. Peter Stoker Director of the National Drug Prevention Alliance, in England, a prominent advocate for drug prevention, and Mr. Bo Persson, President of Narconon Europe, which uses the drug-rehabilitation technology developed by Scientology founder, L. Ron Hubbard.
